This week FileMaker made a huge announcement:

Given this great news, we’ll take half of the Tuesday meeting to discuss FileMaker Go for iPhone and iPad. We’ll pass around a few examples in case you haven’t gotten your hands on it yet, and we’ll talk about what we’ve learned so far in this very exciting first week.

Matt Navarre and John Sindelar will co-present this FM Go section after John’s presentation on Filtered Portals using the new feature in FileMaker Pro 11. John will make a strong case why Filtered Portals is the sleeper feature in FileMaker Pro 11.

Then we’ll open it up to general discussion and Q&A.

Like most FileMaker users, we were excited to learn about the release of FileMaker Go for the iPhone and iPad. It promises to offer a new level of flexibility in connecting with your data that many of us have been looking forward to for a long time. FileMaker has done a very nice job with this product.

A word about FileMaker Pro 11

We are excited about the release of FileMaker Pro 11. There are a handful of feature and usability advancements that make it a very compelling upgrade and keep us excited about the evolution of the platform. We are looking forward to taking full advantage in our future solutions. We also understand that it will be some time before many organizations will be ready to make the move to a new version of FileMaker across all of their users.

Using FileMaker’s SQL UNION to combine data

At Pause On Error I was scheduled to lead a discussion about using the SQL API in FileMaker Pro but nixed it to make room for other presenters. Instead I talked about FileMaker MVC with Ernest and data modeling with David Graham of BitTailor. Because of the popularity of the topic, however, I thought I'd address a few of the questions I received in hallways and at the bar here.

Mike Lee will be speaking at the CASE District I conference in Boston with Donna Savelli Orleman from the MIT Alumni Association. Connecticut FileMaker Developer Group

I had a great time at the monthly meeting of the Connecticut FileMaker Developers Group. We met at the usual location: the Student Center at Central Connecticut State University in New Britain.

The main topic was a discussion of online resources for the FIleMaker developer. These include custom function lists, forums and the official FileMaker bug tracker among others.
